It has been said that nothing has such power to cause a complete mental turnaround as that of a question. Throughout the course of your life, you will be met with a host of life-changing questions but none will be as important as this one question: Who is Jesus? As Tim Keller noted, “the whole story of the world—and of how we fit into it—is most clearly understood throughout a careful, direct look at the story of Jesus.” The most reliable place for such a look is in the collection of eyewitness accounts by people who were with Jesus and recorded the events of His life…enter the gospel accounts of Jesus’ life as recorded in the word of God.
Jesus is the uncontested subject of the gospel of Mark, and Mark helps us understand Jesus by focusing on what He does. Half of Mark’s gospel is devoted to answering the question: Who is Jesus? while the other half is devoted to answering the question:What did He come to do? Through his action-packed, fast-hitting style, Mark writes to convince us that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, who served, suffered, died, and rose against as the Suffering Servant of the Lord.
We invite you to join with us on Sunday mornings (10:15am) as we walk through the gospel of Mark in hopes of answering that all important question of Who is Jesus? We believe that Jesus is a person worthy of our attention, as one author said, “unpredictable yet reliable, gentle yet powerful, authoritative yet humble, human yet divine. Yet we pray that you will see Him not merely as a subject to be studied but as God who is worthy of your life and worship.
