Book Review – The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert

The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert by Rosaria Champagne Butterfield

Review written by Marbeth Wickliffe

Some of my favorite types of books are missionary stories. I love to hear how God uses regular people with struggles to bring glory to Himself. This book is a missionary story with a twist. It tells the story of a women’s studies professor in Syracuse who once engaged in a homosexual lifestyle came to know Jesus. After being introduced to the gospel by unlikely sources, she soon found her life completely transformed by it.

Rosaria is living proof that God will draw all those He has ordained to Himself, regardless of how unreachable they seem on the surface. She writes with honesty, never sugarcoating her struggles or the difficulties that come with changing one’s lifestyle for the sake of the gospel.

The book also includes encouragements for the church about hospitality, community, foster care and adoption. Over the years, since becoming the wife of a pastor, Rosaria and her husband have fostered and adopted several children. I was reminded how the cost and joys of serving and loving God includes doing the same for not only family members, but neighbors.

Pick up a copy of this powerful book in the bookstall. You won’t be disappointed!
