Return to 1 Corinthians Series
Now that we have concluded our brief series on some of the parables of Jesus, we return to our study of 1 Corinthians, where Paul addresses the issue of consuming food offered to idols. In chapter 8, Paul discusses the proper use of personal liberty, emphasizing that while knowledge can lead to arrogance, love builds up the community. We learned that believers may have different views based on their consciences, but Scripture must always guide our consciences. Ultimately, love for one another should direct how we exercise our liberty.
Chapters 8 through 11:1 form a cohesive section in 1 Corinthians. Our upcoming sermons will explore how Paul advises using liberty to further the gospel. As we delve into chapters 9 and 10, we will examine Paul’s life as an example of using his freedom for the gospel’s sake. We will also address the serious threat of idolatry to the Corinthian church and the importance of avoiding it and other sins to protect our souls, support our fellow believers, and offer hope to the lost. We hope you will join us for this important study.
