CLC Men’s Camping Retreat 2015
This past weekend was CLC’s Annual Men’s Camping Retreat. This retreat is probably one of my favorite events that we do each year. Getting to hang out and sit around the fire, play football or Frisbee, and just do manly things we can’t always do at home provides for a fun weekend.
One of my favorite parts about the retreat is the relationships that are built. As men at CLC, this may be one of the best opportunities we have to really connect with other men at our church. The rides to the campground always turn out to be times of meaningful, uninterrupted conversation that you don’t often get with the busyness of life. The retreat always provides a chance where I can meet someone who has been regularly visiting CLC or has become a new member. But it also affords the opportunity to strengthen acquaintances into lasting friendships.
Of course, the Men’s Retreat included some time to engage with God’s Word. And for anyone who thinks Justin takes forever to preach through books, you missed your chance to see him preach through an entire book in less than 24 hours. We were challenged to be biblical men from Paul’s second letter to Timothy. Some popular themes that Justin pointed out from this text that spoke to men were to remember the foundation that has been sowed into us, to remain in the trustworthy testimony of our Lord, and to retain sound doctrine. To be biblical men, we must be men who love the Word and let it inform every aspect of our lives.
To anyone who missed the Men’s Retreat, you missed a great weekend. Begin now in planning to make sure you can get this time away next year. You will not be disappointed.
